A visit to Rustaq Fort offers a captivating journey back in time, allowing you to explore its intricate architecture and learn about its pivotal role in shaping Oman's past. The fort's origins can be traced back to pre-Islamic times, with evidence suggesting that a Persian fort stood on the site as early as the 12th century. However, the majority of the current structure dates back to the 17th century, during the reign of the Yarubi dynasty. Imam Nasir bin Murshid Al Yarubi, the founder of the Yarubi dynasty, significantly expanded and fortified the fort, transforming it into the formidable stronghold it is today. Rustaq Fort served as the capital of Oman for several periods in its history. Visitors can explore the fort's various sections, including its watchtowers, armories, living quarters, and mosques. Climb to the top of the towers for panoramic views of the surrounding oasis and the Hajar Mountains. The fort also features a fascinating falaj system, an ancient irrigation system that demonstrates the ingenuity of Omani engineering.
